Director of Beyond Standards Limited

David was formerly Chief Inspector of Adult Learning for England and chief executive of the Adult Learning Inspectorate (ALI).

In addition to the award in 2006 of CBE for service to lifelong learning, he has received the award of the Association of College Management (ACM) for services to the learning and skills sector. He is a fellow of the City and Guilds of London and the Royal Society of Arts, President of the National Institute for Adult and Community Education (NIACE), a member of the Institute of Directors and a board member of the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). He has a research degree from the University of Nottingham. In addition to 14 years in inspection, David had 18 years’ experience as vice-principal and principal of several colleges, culminating at the University of the Arts, London and the Royal College of Art.

David is a director of Beyond Standards Limited, a consultancy specialising in quality and business improvement in education and training with a strong client list in the UK and overseas. With his business partner, Nicky Perry, he has written a book entitled Quality Improvement in Adult Vocational Education and Training for Kogan Page to be published April 2008.
