Mathematics
Mathematics can provide opportunities for newly arrived pupils who have attended school in their home country to demonstrate understanding. Even when they have little knowledge of English, some mathematics is likely to be recognisable.
These pages describe ways in which the teaching of mathematics can benefit pupils newly arrived in England and how schools can maximise the opportunities offered by the subject. The guidance shows how teachers can modify, as necessary, classroom activities to provide pupils with relevant and appropriately challenging work in key stages 1 and 2.
