Subjects: Inclusion
This section of the website shows how different subjects can provide opportunities for new arrivals to achieve, including those with very limited English. The guidance shows how teachers can use the principles in the national curriculum inclusion statement to modify the subject curriculum to provide pupils with relevant and appropriately challenging work. For each subject, potential barriers to learning are identified and strategies are suggested for overcoming them.
The approaches suggested will, in many cases, benefit other learners. The materials also demonstrate how the experiences that new arrivals bring to the school can enrich the learning of other members of the class and school community.
