Good practice example 4: Promoting community languages
A London primary school with pupils from a variety of bilingual backgrounds has encouraged Turkish-speaking pupils who are still learning English to support each other in their own language during mathematics classes. The children discuss the exercises and concepts in their own language, if necessary, but are encouraged to use English when giving their answers or discussing them with others in the class.
