New beginnings Teachers piloting the hybrid GCSE have welcomed the opportunity to trial a lively and innovative geography GCSE

Around 2,000 candidates will be involved in the two-year pilot, which started in September 2003.

The hybrid model The qualification is made up of a geography core – available as a GCSE short course – and two optional units drawn from a bank of units. The content of the core has been designed to meet the needs of pupils and reflect changes in the subject.
