Background to the framework

In October 2003, after consultation with faith communities and professional religious education (RE) associations, the Secretary of State for Education gave QCA a remit to produce a non-statutory national framework for RE.

QCA developed a draft framework in partnership with the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and other partners including faith communities and professional associations for RE.
