Writing links between QCA schemes of work and NLS writing objectives
Year 1
The QCA schemes of work for Design and Technology at Y1 are 1A, 1B, 1C, and 1D.
The mapping shown below is based on writing activities suggested in the units that directly relate to NLS non-fiction objectives. The units also offer other opportunities for purposeful writing.

Unit 1A. Moving pictures
Children should: design and make a moving picture for the teacher to use when telling a story.
Writing activity identified in the unit: Simple lists and captions could be introduced as a means of organising and labelling plans.
Discuss with the children the order in which things need to be done. How could you do this? What could you use? What do you need to do first? Ask the children to model their ideas first in paper or card (this mechanism could be used in the final picture or model). |
