AS and A level in electronics

What is an AS and an A level in electronics?

The AS and A level in electronics encourages students to:

  • show the importance of electronics as a human endeavour that has an impact on social, economic and industrial matters
  • appreciate how electronics has developed and is used in present-day society
  • develop essential knowledge and understanding of concepts of electronics – and where appropriate, the applications of electronics – and the skills needed to use these in new and changing situations
  • develop an understanding of the link between theory and practical work
  • recognise and apply the quantitative and qualitative nature of electronics and how mathematical expressions relate to electronic principles
  • apply a logical approach to the analysis and synthesis of complex systems
  • apply modelling techniques
  • develop the practical skills associated with the design, construction and testing of electronic principles
  • develop the skills of observation, experimentation and the processing and interpretation of data
  • develop skills in communication, application of number and information technology
  • bring together knowledge of ways in which different areas of electronics relate to each other
  • sustain and develop their enjoyment of, and interest in, electronics.
