The level 1 and 2 tests for the key skills and skills for life are available on an on demand basis in on screen format from accredited awarding bodies. The tests cover the following subjects:

• Key skills, application of number
• Key skills, communication
• Key skills, ICT
• Adult literacy
• Adult numeracy

The on screen, on demand system of assessment means that candidates can take a test as soon as they are ready to do so. Candidates receive immediate feedback about whether they have passed the test. Unsuccessful candidates receive feedback on skills areas where they need more practice and are able to retake the test as soon as they are ready.

While our research has found that many candidates prefer to take the tests in this way, they also remain available in paper format to meet the requirements of centres and candidates who need or prefer to access them in this way.
