Activities beyond the classroom: Musics

A school that is developing gifted and talented pupils should:

  • celebrate the musical ability of all pupils, including those with musical talent, through public events involving the school and community
  • provide opportunities for all pupils to experience a range of instruments and to receive specialist tuition (some primary schools have a policy to give all pupils in year 4 a taster on a specialist instrument)
  • provide a range of school ensembles and vocal groups, and encourage pupils to join community, regional and national groups
  • involve all pupils in performing to others, including the community
  • ensure all pupils experience a live musical event at least once during each key stage, to stimulate interest and widen experience.
