Teaching talented pupils: Individual and group work

Pupils who are gifted and talented in music may find it difficult to work with others, as they tend to be compelled by their own ideas. Dealing with this can be a considerable challenge, because music in the classroom often emphasises group and class interaction.

The use of ICT can be particularly helpful, enabling pupils to explore and develop their own ideas, and to add and combine sounds to create complex textures. When working with the rest of the class, gifted pupils should be encouraged to help take work forward by suggesting and demonstrating ideas.
