Inclusion issues: Setting suitable learning challenges
Like all learners, pupils who are especially talented in art and design need a meaningful context, a clear purpose and concrete sensory experience in order to learn and progress.
Talented pupils may need challenges beyond the traditional range of art and design media in order to extend the breadth and depth of their interests and study. For example, they could draw on the content of different subjects, bringing together art forms such as dance, music and writing with the visual arts. They could:
link their work with dance and drama by working with ICT, video and sound. Working with concepts such as space, rhythm, spacing and sequencing encourages pupils' creative thought and expression;
address issues raised in contemporary art and culture, pushing the boundaries of traditional processes and conventions by, for example, combining media in multi-sensory works such as installations, advertising and film-making.
