Teaching gifted pupils: Accelerating learning

It may be appropriate for a homogenous group of pupils who are gifted in modern foreign languages to follow a fast-track learning course with a view to early entry for the GCSE examination at the end of key stage 3 or early in key stage 4. Such pupils could be offered the opportunity to study two modern languages from year 8, studying both concurrently but taking early entry in one language.

Outstanding individuals might be placed in an accelerated class (if timetabling allows) or entered for exams at an early stage. They might then follow an individualised timetable that involves foreign language assistants, perhaps students in years 12 and 13, and some individual teaching.
