Inclusion issues: Setting suitable learning challenges: D & T
Like all learners, pupils who are especially gifted in design and technology need a meaningful context, a clear purpose and practical experience in order to learn and progress.
Very able pupils may need further challenges in order to extend the breadth and depth of their interests and study. Encouraging them to address values issues, such as social and environmental concerns, will challenge them to push the boundaries of traditional processes and solutions. For example, they could evaluate the impact of a design solution, consider the product's benefits for its users and others, and examine any unintended outcomes.
