The work of gifted and talented children in mathematics in years 1 and 2 shows that they can:

  • grasp mathematical ideas quickly;
  • calculate fluently and make reasonable estimates;
  • make conjectures and check their validity;
  • make generalisations and communicate them in words or symbols;
  • think flexibly, choosing and using appropriate mathematical operations to solve problems;
  • make connections between different aspects of mathematics;
