Phase one covers Diplomas in:

  • Construction and the built environment
  • Creative and media
  • Engineering
  • Information technology (IT)
  • Society, health and development (SHD)

This mapping shows you where you might find references to applied learning, functional skills and PLTS within each level of the Lines of Learning in phase one. The mapping illustrates how you can embed this important learning into your curriculum. By clicking on the links at the side of this page you can choose to look at your Diploma line from each of the three perspectives.

Integrated learning in a key feature of the Diploma and as you are planning your provision you should look for the potential innovative opportunities to develop functional skills, PLTS and include genuinely applied learning opportunities.

It is suggested that this particular element of the key themes section can be used to

  • carry out real life investigations and active enquiry (AL3)
  • help with learning through doing (AL4)
  • support learning in different environments (AL6)

Example of support for functional skills

Tables like the one below take the functional skills standards and map them against the Diploma guidance. By looking at all the tables for a given Line of Learning or functional skill you will see how learners might be helped to meet the standard through their Diploma learning.

Adapt contributions in discussions to suit audience, purpose and situation

Articulate an informed respect and appreciation for the views of others (KP)

Effective communication via a diverse range of means and for a range of purposes (R&C)

This particular element of the key themes section demonstrates how you might use this Diploma to 'evaluate experiences and learning to inform future progress', with reflective learning a key part of the PLTS framework as well as important to Diploma learning.
