Last updated: 15 Feb 2008

About this guidance

This guidance has been developed for practitioners delivering functional skills and is designed to illustrate how the standards can be used to support the delivery and assessment of the functional skills qualifications.

Who is it for?

It has been designed for practitioners but may also be of use to learners and other stakeholders involved in the teaching, learning and delivery of functional skills. The development of functional skills is important to all learners.

How do I use it?

The guidance is divided up into four sections:

  1. Introducing the standards
  2. Understanding the levels
  3. Progressing through the levels
  4. Applying functional skills
    • Functional skills in practice
    • Resources
    • Problem solving and evaluation
    • Assessing competence.

Having this guidance on our website means that it can be added to and amended as the pilot progresses and best practice emerges. If you have any feedback on this guidance please email functionalskills@qca.org.uk
