PSHE: ages 11-16
Personal, social and health education
Last updated: 30 Oct 2007
Two parts to PSHE
At key stages 3 and 4, PSHE education is split into two:
- economic wellbeing and financial capability, which brings together careers education, work-related learning, enterprise, and financial capability
- personal wellbeing, which concentrates on the personal development of pupils and covers sex and relationships, as well as drugs education.
Fulfilling requirements
PSHE is not statutory for pupils aged 11-16. However, schools must provide sex and relationships education, drugs education, careers education and opportunities for work-related learning. The programmes of study for economic wellbeing and financial capability, as well as personal wellbeing, provide a context for fulfilling these requirements.
