Resources for teaching
QCA produces resources to support the teaching of science in secondary schools.
New programmes of study at key stage 3
QCA has published a new programme of study for science at key stage 3, for year 7, to be implemented from September 2008. The new programme of study can be viewed on the QCA secondary curriculum website. The website also has the unchanged programme of study for key stage 4 and a range of support and guidance to help schools develop a world-class secondary curriculum for the 21st century.
Although the new secondary curriculum has been launched, the existing key stage 3 programme of study still applies to learners who began year 7 in September 2007. See National Curriculum online.
Assessing progress in science at key stage 3
This pack of materials is designed to help teachers assess key stage 3 pupils. It provides guidance on assessment for learning principles, on identifying pupils' strengths and weaknesses, and on providing informative feedback. Buy copies from QCA orderline.
INSET toolkit to support assessing progress in science
This toolkit has been designed to develop teachers' understanding of assessment for learning and to enhance the use of the Assessing progress in science support materials. Each toolkit consists of a detailed facilitator's guide, participants' booklets and a CD-ROM with extensive classroom video footage and support materials. Electronic copies of the Assessing progress in science materials are included on the CD-ROM in each toolkit.
