Further successful Component and Diploma awarding bodies announced

Last updated: 05 Oct 2007

Following the announcement of recognised Component and Diploma awarding bodies in May 2007, QCA can now confirm further awarding bodies recognised for the first ten lines of learning.

As of October 2007, QCA can confirm those awarding bodies that have been recognised as eligible to submit qualifications for accreditation for the second five lines of learning for the Diploma. The lines of learning are: business, administration and finance; environmental and land-based studies; hair and beauty studies; hospitality; and, manufacturing and product design, with teaching commencing in September 2009.

An additional awarding body has also been recognised as eligible to submit qualifications for accreditation for the first five lines of learning. The lines of learning are: construction and the built environment; creative and media; engineering; information technology; and, society, health and development, with teaching commencing in September 2008.

Awarding bodies recognised as eligible to submit qualifications for the final four lines of learning, being taught from 2010, will be announced at the appropriate time.

Recognition is based on the interim regulatory criteria and awarding bodies have demonstrated how they intend to meet these so as to provide a Diploma that will fulfil the needs of candidates. The process was open to all awarding bodies that have previously been recognised by the qualifications regulators as capable of offering accredited external qualifications. Other awarding bodies that wish to offer the Diploma will be able to apply to QCA in the future.

It should be noted that the list is only those further awarding bodies that have been recognised as suitable to submit new qualification proposals for accreditation, and is not a guarantee that accreditation will be achieved. The list is a reflection only of those awarding bodies that applied to QCA and does not indicate any superior capability over other recognised awarding bodies that are not involved in the Diploma.
