e-Assessment: Guide to effective practice

Last updated: 24 Aug 2007

The e-Assessment: Guide to effective practice is a new resource for those involved in the management and administration of e-assessment in awarding body centres where accredited qualifications are delivered.

Promoting e-assessment opportunities

Covering both e-testing and e-portfolios, this guide supports the development of e-assessment opportunities for learners within UK qualifications frameworks. It aims to stimulate the use of e-assessment in centres and to encourage quality improvement.

Although the guide has been developed primarily to support e-assessment in the post-school sector, elements will also be of interest to schools and universities.

Users should note that this guide is not a regulatory document. It seeks to identify and stimulate effective practice, but neither awarding bodies nor centres are required to comply with the specific procedures outlined in the guide.

Ongoing consultation

The e-Assessment: Guide to effective practice has been developed by the four regulators of accredited qualifications in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland in consultation with awarding bodies and centres across the country - including the 12 pilot centres that evaluated the guide.

The regulators will continue to work with partner organisations to develop future versions of this guide, reflecting the development of good practice in both e-testing and the use of e-portfolios for assessment.
