Factsheet: Awarding body recognition

Last updated: 15 Mar 2005

Awarding bodies are organisations which can offer qualifications within the national qualifications framework in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. As of May 2004 there were 113 awarding bodies. Before an awarding body can submit a proposed qualification for accreditation, the awarding body must first be recognised by the regulatory authorities. This is an extensive and thorough process carried out by the regulatory authorities.
