Foundation stage profile assessment

Introduction

The foundation stage profile (FSP) is the statutory means of recording each child's attainment against the early learning goals and identifying their learning needs at the end of the foundation stage. For most children, this is at the end of the reception year in primary, infant or first schools - but the FSP must be completed in any government-funded setting, including private, voluntary or independent, in which children complete the foundation stage.

The foundation stage profile is based on practitioner's ongoing observations and assessments in all six areas of learning set out in Curriculum guidance for the foundation stage. Each child's typical developments and achievements will be recorded on assessment scales derived from the stepping stones and the early learning goals. Summary profiles must be completed for each child reaching the end of the foundation stage, four weeks before the end of the summer term.

An electronic version of the scales booklet, the eProfile, is available to schools if their local authority is recommending and supporting its use.

The eProfile can be downloaded from the Suffolk County Council website.
