B: The 2005-2006 key stage 3 review

B1: If the programmes of study (PoS) at key stage 3 were reduced to a minimum core, what kind of exemplification would best support the teaching and assessment of design and technology?

The most essential source of exemplification for design and technology departments would be continued professional development/INSET if the PoS were reduced. Most schools would find hard copy guidance, comprehensive teacher assessment guidelines and web-based exemplar and guidance materials at least very useful.

More than three-quarters of the schools surveyed think a web-based collection of pupils' work with comprehensive commentary, exemplar and guidance materials on CD-ROM and a range of assessment tasks would be either essential or very useful. Standardised tests covering the whole PoS are considered the least useful.
