A levels and GCSEs
Last updated: 22 May 2007
In 2006, over 1 million learners sat A level and GCSE examinations. QCA regulates A level and GCSE awarding bodies to ensure that standards are maintained and that learners get the results their work deserves. QCA has continued to monitor standards over time and has recently undertaken reviews of standards in GCSE English and science, GCSE and A level music, and A level English literature and psychology. Where these reviews have identified particular issues, we are working with the awarding bodies to ensure that they address any concerns.
QCA continues to provide support and advice to students, teachers and parents on the A level and GCSE examination system. The QCA exams doctor, George Turnbull, a respected expert in qualifications, continues to answer hundreds of questions from students and parents on a variety of topics, from 'cashing in' AS results through to how to revise for an exam. This quick, friendly, personal service, accessible via the internet, has proved popular with students and parents alike.

On A level results day in August, QCA and its regulatory partners placed a national advert congratulating A level students on their achievements.
