QCA published tasks for the more able, gifted and talented and those working below the level of the tests
Last updated: 31 Mar 2003
Today QCA published optional tasks designed to motivate, engage and challenge pupils who are working either above or below the levels of the national curriculum tests.
The tasks are available on the QCA website and are an optional resource available for teachers to use and adapt to meet the needs of their pupils. They can be used at any time throughout the year. Available in English, maths and science at key stages 2 and 3 and in English and maths (for more able, gifted and talented pupils only) at key stage 1, the tasks can be used with individual pupils, groups, in class or as homework.
The tasks, in conjunction with other evidence, can be used by teachers to aid their assessment of more able, gifted and talented pupils and those working below the level of the national curriculum tests. Following the launch, examples of children's work from the trials will also be added to the website. QCA will review the tasks at the end of the summer term and update them accordingly. The tasks, available on the QCA website, will be added to each year in order to provide teachers with a bank of tasks.
Dr Ken Boston, Chief Executive of QCA, said:
"We have had very positive responses from both teachers and pupils who have trialled this material. It provides teachers with a valuable resource of innovative and challenging tasks for pupils that are performing above or below the level of the national curriculum tests. It's important to recognize that all pupils have individual needs. These materials will provide support for teachers to ensure that pupils across the full spectrum of ability are nurtured, stimulated and encouraged."
