Dear FIRSTNAME, Welcome to this month's Race Game Customer Review. In this edition you can find out about 'Monster Truck Munch', 'Zak's Auto Shack', 'Blues and Twos' plus lots more. Monster Truck Munch - Grade *** This game was OK, but it could have been a lot better. The trucks looked realistic, but sounded more like 50cc mopeds. Although the game is about racing monster trucks, it felt as though someone had simply added different vehicles to a formula 1 game. Real trucks just don't handle like this, and they certainly don't zip round corners at high speed without trying to roll over. It's worth renting for a night just for a change, but it's certainly not one to buy. Zak's Auto Shack - Grade * This is one of the worst games I have ever played. Even my mum got bored. The scenery and music were poor and the car control was pathetic. There was no choice of cars and only four different tracks (none of which was very difficult). Sorry folks, but this is one to give a miss. Blues And Twos - Grade *** This is the first racing game I have played. The first few times I played it were OK but after a while it became boring. Unfortunately, the car choices are very limited and I thought that the police chases were rather poor. However, my friend liked trying to outrun the police, so it can't be all that bad. Car handling was good but the game play was a bit odd (e.g. whatever you do with the BMW it always crashes on the first bend). Overall I thought it was a good introduction to car race games. Not too difficult and no need to worry about strategy, just put the gas down and go for it! Mustang Stampede - Grade ***** This game is fantastic. It really is great fun. At first I wasn't quite sure what to expect, and spent most of my time in head-on collisions, being knocked off the road and being wiped out. But the more I played it, the more fun it became. All the reviews I read gave this game a bad rating, but once you get to the third level it really rocks. In fact, it is so realistic I felt as if I was actually in the race. It has great graphics and a very realistic sound track (even down to the different pitched gear shifts). I would definitely recommend this game. Just stick with it for the first few levels and the rewards will be very rich indeed. Happy racing! Manic Motor 2 - Grade **** This includes races in 5 counties, each with seven or eight tracks (a total of 38 different tracks). You can either race one-to-one against a friend, or against up to five other computer driven cars. Only if you finish first can you move on to the next track and a higher level of difficulty. Each of the tracks is well thought out and with only a couple of exceptions they are all great fun to drive. Unfortunately the game does not require a very high level of skill, so as long as you avoid hitting any other cars you are bound to do fairly well. The game's biggest drawback comes when you hit other cars, as even the slightest nudge spins you off of the track and leaves you in last place. I found this really annoying, as even when I was miles ahead of every other car, a small shunt left me coming in last and feeling really frustrated. What is nice is that you get to drive some of the bigger American cars, and from everything I have read about them, they perform pretty much as the real thing would do. This game is fun, but if you want real value for money, I would save your pennies until 'Desert Dash 3' is released in a couple of month's time. If the reviews are to be believed, this will be the greatest race game of all time. Personally, I can't wait.
