Geography's contribution to the wider curriculum
in key stage 2

Geography provides young children with many real contexts in which to develop and use a variety of learning skills that are important across the curriculum. Try to avoid seeing these aspects of the wider curriculum as more content to be squeezed into a limited amount of time. Through the wider curriculum, geography can become more meaningful and relevant to children's lives and learning.

  • Aim to link children's learning through geography to their wider experiences.
  • Look for opportunities to develop children's skills in literacy, numeracy and ICT through their learning in geography.

Learning through geography will make significant contributions to young children's roles as global citizens, and their understanding of environmental change and sustainable development.
