Purpose and audience

Geography fires young people's curiosity about the world around them and their place within it. 'Innovating with Geography' shows how the geography national curriculum can be used to engage and motivate pupils 5-14, to improve the quality of teaching and learning, and raise standards of achievement.

Use this website to engage with the excitement of school geography, to find out what others have planned and to share your own good practice. Wherever you are on the 'innovative scale', you should find something to help you improve your teaching and your pupils' learning. For ease of use, pages providing practical examples have a common format: 'bright ideas'; 'more developed ideas'; and 'other information'.

The site is designed for geography subject leaders in primary and middle schools, heads of geography in secondary schools, teachers and intending teachers of geography and all those interested in geography education.

Links to other websites

'Innovating with Geography' is a 'gateway' site providing direct links to many other websites that support geography teaching and learning. A link to a website does not imply QCA's approval of that website. Users should carry out their own evaluations of websites for their own use. Becta provides guidance on how to evaluate and review websites.

Developing the website

The site is a developing resource that depends on teachers being prepared to share their good ideas and practice. While material for any of the sections of the website is welcome at any time, examples of teaching and learning in key stage 1, assessment in key stages 1 and 2 and subject leadership are particularly needed. Materials may also be removed from the site, for example if they become dated.

YOUR WEBSITE NEEDS YOU!

If you have something to share, please contact us.
