12.2What do schools need to consider when making access arrangements?

The person responsible for making access arrangements for the key stage 2 tests must:

  • read relevant guidance in this ARA on access arrangements and, if appropriate, Guidance notes sent out with modified tests
  • make sure that test administrators, including amanuenses, readers and transcribers, are fully aware of their responsibilities and what they should do during and immediately after the tests
  • make sure that any school-based adaptations to the test papers do not involve rewording questions
  • make sure that relatives of pupils who need access arrangements are not involved in administering the tests to those pupils
  • consider allowing pupils to take the tests in a separate room if they are using access arrangements such as rest breaks, additional time, amanuenses, readers or technological aids
  • refer any problems immediately to the headteacher.
