Gaining recognition

Gaining recognition for your school's arts work can raise the profile of both the arts and your team.

Applying for Artsmark

One of the most effective ways to gain public recognition for arts work is to apply for Artsmark. This is a benchmark for arts education provision in schools, awarded by Arts Council England.

Many arts teams have found that applying for Artsmark has increased their headteacher's support for, and recognition of, the arts. The first step towards attaining the award is to carry out a full audit of the arts, which schools find is a useful exercise in its own right.

Submitting work for this website

You can also gain recognition for your work by providing an example of effective arts work to appear as a case study in the 'Arts in practice' section of this website. A template is supplied so that you can do this easily.

Taking part in competitions and festivals

Local and national competitions and festivals can provide good opportunities to gain public recognition for the quality of your school's arts work. They also allow pupils to experience high standards of arts work.
