Using the case study templates

You can use the templates here to either:

  • write a case study for possible inclusion on this website;
  • develop your own approach to the arts (schools have found that completing the template helps them to develop effective practice).

If you are writing a report on a completed project, work your way through all six sections as follows:

  1. About the school
A description of your school, some basic facts and figures, its vision, arts policy and provision.

  2. What did you want to achieve?
The focus for the work in terms of overall targets for the arts and for school improvement, and specific outcomes that you wanted to achieve (eg improved attitudes to learning).

  3. What did you do?
A description of activities, teaching strategies and the use of time and resources.

  4. How did you collect evidence?
The methods used to collect evidence that you had achieved your targets.

  5. What were the outcomes?
A description of all the outcomes achieved (intended and unintended). All outcomes claimed should be supported by an explanation of how the evidence was collected (eg pupil responses to questionnaires, examples of pupils' work).

  6. What went well? What could have been improved?
A summary of the most significant aspects of the work. What were the key things that had the greatest effect? What could have been done better? Would you do the project again?

If you want to use the template to develop an arts project, complete sections 2, 3 and 4 to help with your planning. You will need to answer the questions:

  • What do you want to achieve? (section 2)
  • What are you going to do? (section 3)
  • How are you going to collect evidence? (section 4)
