Designs on primary schools

About the arts organisation

The Design Museum is the UK’s only museum of design in the 20th and 21st century. It has a network of contacts that enable it to act as a bridge between the design community, industry and education.

The Design Museum is also the UK’s largest provider of design education resources and its exhibitions can be used to support design and technology and art and design curricula at all levels. There are four staff in the education department – the head of education, two part-time education coordinators (who teach and manage projects) and a full-time administrative assistant.

Self-directed visits to the museum are free, and give pupils an opportunity to explore design history and learn more about contemporary design. Product handling collections and worksheets are available on request.

The museum also offers a range of product evaluation workshops to accompany major exhibitions. These combine observation, product handling, drawing, discussion and problem-solving exercises highlighting the importance of creativity and innovation in the design process.

The museum’s education department runs a range of CPD courses and conferences for teachers at all levels.
