Designs on primary schools

What did the arts organisation want to achieve?

The Design Museum was keen to extend its programme for primary schools and organised this project to help it define what to offer in the future. Deutsche Bank supported this objective as it was also keen to expand its involvement with primary schools.

By offering professional development, the museum hoped to introduce the teacher to new ideas and approaches and, as a result, improve design and technology teaching in the school. Its main aim for the class visit and workshop was to improve pupils’ understanding of design and introduce them to the design processes.

The Design Museum was keen for this project to be the start of a long-term link with the school. Staff in the education department wanted to get to know the design and technology coordinator and encourage her to see the museum as a valuable learning resource that she could tap into on an ongoing basis. The museum also hoped that the children who visited would remember the experience and feel that they would like to return one day.
