Starting the day with arts activities

What went well? What could have been improved?

The headteacher's view

Clarifying our targets was vital. For research purposes, we had to clarify the focus beyond attitudes to enable us to quantify the results. It was useful to plan how to collect evidence in advance, so that we could be prepared with observation forms and so on.

The whole project worked superbly. We put together a programme that ran effectively across the age groups and allowed us to make the most of the resources we had. We feel that all children gained greatly from the project.

We have continued to carry out the activities throughout school, as we feel that the project works so well. We are now rotating the activities weekly, rather than keeping them to the same day.

The entire staff backed the project and believed in the benefits of the activities. This made resourcing and timetabling much easier. The governors were very interested in the project and its outcomes.

We found that, with the staff's full co-operation, this project is simple to run, easily resourced and benefits pupils greatly. The staff have enjoyed the work too.
