Starting the day with arts activities

How did the school collect evidence?

The school used a wide range of methods to collect evidence of the project's impact, including:

  • analysing standardised scores from NFER testing and Suffolk reading tests, completed annually by pupils throughout the school;
  • asking pupils to complete logbooks after each arts session and after each lesson;
  • collecting written observations by LSAs and TAs during class discussions and independent sessions on the pupils involved in the research study;
  • assessing pupils' work (some pieces of work were highlighted as evidence for the study);
  • recording comments made during discussions (eg comments made by parents).

The school has an ongoing data collection process for target setting and for monitoring pupils' progress through standardised scores from testing. It used these as a base for investigating pupils' progress against tests taken during the term.
