 An attitude-changing performance
About the school
This mixed comprehensive school (11--18) is situated on the outskirts of Birmingham. The vast majority of its 1090 pupils are white and 125 are eligible for free school meals. Attendance at the school is in line with the national average, while the number of exclusions is well below average. Around 140 pupils are on the school's special educational needs register.
The school is regarded as very caring, with good staff/pupil relationships. It is also growing and in the past two years has been over-subscribed.
Arts in the school
The arts are vital to the school because they:
- create good links with the community;
- provide pupils with a balanced education;
- give pupils a broader experience of life;
- provide opportunities for collaboration and co-operation.
A performing arts block was built when the school was grant maintained, which greatly improved its facilities. Last year, nearly 40% of pupils took at least one arts GCSE.
