Students and their parents

Students and parents have access to all parts of this site. The sections you might find particularly useful include:

Several sections have been written especially for students and those who advise them.

Some students will be choosing subjects and programmes that they will study for the next year or two. Many will be taking qualifications in the summer and may have questions about how they are set and marked, how standards are assured and how secure they can feel that their papers will be marked and graded correctly and their results issued on time. All these issues are dealt with on this site.

Students in year 9 choosing their key stage 4 courses should find Informing choices useful.  It gives information about qualifications and courses available.  There are also brief guides to the qualifications used in the key stage 4 curriculum and work-based qualifications.  Choosing a GCSE in a vocational subject gives detailed information and examples of students using these qualifications.

Students in key stage 4 who are making their post-16 choices should also find Informing choices useful.  Those considering an advanced level programme in a sixth form or a college can consult the brief guide to level 3 qualifications. They can also find advice on choosing a course and information on apprenticeships and qualifications.

For 16-19 students in sixth forms or colleges there is information and guidance on exams, extra curricular and enrichment activities, coping with the workload and what universities are looking for from applicants. Detailed information about individual universities, entry requirements and courses can be found via the UCAS website.
