These case studies illustrate how individual schools are addressing specific issues within the entitlement areas. They represent examples of practice in schools at a time of significant development and provide a snapshot of work in progress. They show how:

schools can go beyond the minimum and offer a range of courses in each area
schools can make any of the entitlement areas compulsory for their students, if they wish to do so
schools can ensure that students have genuine access to the entitlement areas
courses of different types and at different levels can meet the entitlement requirements
the entitlement curriculum can be supported by an extended learning day and extracurricular activities
subjects and disciplines within an entitlement area can collaborate to enhance the overall provision
year 9 is used as an effective foundation for key stage 4 courses in the entitlement areas.
