Flexibility in the secondary curriculum

Flexibility in the secondary curriculum was published in 1999.

It provides information about the flexibility available in the national curriculum up to and including 2000/1. It includes examples of curriculum provision planned to match learners’ needs. Much of it is still relevant.

It contains sections that are pertinent to the new 14-19 agenda, including:

  • completing programmes of study early
  • matching learning to pupils’ needs
  • choice of qualifications
  • contexts for learning.

The sections on disapplication of national curriculum subjects at key stage 4 have been superseded.
